Dating When Depressed or Hypomanic: Good Idea or Not?

Dating when you’re experiencing bipolar rapid cycling. Now, there’s a real challenge! I thought I’d share my experience with it.

For those of us living with bipolar disorder, it is difficult for us to find the perfect time to put ourselves out there and be vulnerable to people who we barely know. However, facing challenges are a great way to build ourselves into stronger individuals. Like my dad says, it builds character. However, I’m not testing his theory when severely depressed, hypomanic or manic. There is no way dating with bipolar is even an option. Dating when we feel incredibly uncomfortable is not a good idea.

On the flip side, I think it is important we realize, and accept, that there is no perfect time for us to enter back into the dating scene. We are always going to face the ups and downs that are a part of bipolar disorder. It is about accepting and embracing that part of us. We are beautiful and empathetic people and have something great to offer another individual. Always remember that and make it part of your attitude when facing new challenges such as dating when feeling slightly depressed or hypomanic.

Please share your thoughts and experiences dating when your bipolar disorder symptoms are ramped up or do a response video and send it into info@healthyplace.com. Thanks! See you next week!
