My Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery Three Year Anniversary

August 13, 2015 Star LaBranche

Break out the party hats, today marks my three year anniversary of getting gastric sleeve weight loss surgery and taking control of my binge eating disorder. I can truly say that the last three years have been my most successful in so many areas when it comes to my eating disorder and my body. I'm so grateful for my gastric sleeve weight loss surgery anniversary and being achieve as much as I have since then.

Before Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery: My Binge Eating Disorder Was Out of Control

It's been three years since I got gastric sleeve weight loss surgery. My life has improved greatly since getting weight loss surgery and I'm celebrating.

I had been struggling for so long with my binging and once my weight started to get out of control, I thought nothing, not even drastic intervention like gastric weight loss surgery, could help me. I had started to resign myself to the fact that I was doomed to eat myself to death. But then my binge eating disorder therapist suggested that I go to a weight loss clinic that performed gastric weight loss surgery.

My life changed when I went to the introduction seminar. I finally had hope that I could take back control, learn how to deal with my binge eating disorder, and didn't have to continue to be so miserable with my eating habits and my body image.

After Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery: I'm Free to Be Myself Again

Before I underwent gastric sleeve weight loss surgery, I felt like I wasn't even me anymore. It's been three years since I got gastric sleeve weight loss surgery. My life has improved greatly since getting weight loss surgery and I'm celebrating. I didn't look like myself due to the massive weight gain, I didn't feel like myself; I was trapped in this strange body that didn't respond how I expected. I was unhappy with my body, my feelings of guilt and shame over my binging, and my fears for the future that I wouldn't be able to stop binging.

When I started losing weight and regaining control, I realized something: I'm myself again. I'm not constantly stressed out over compulsive hunger. I'm not letting my mental illness dominate my life. I made mistakes along the way, but I learned so much in the last three years about myself and my eating disorder. I'm at peace with a lot of things that I never thought I would be okay with. I'm better prepared for life's events, expected and unexpected. Although I struggle sometimes, I'm always ready to get back up, dust myself off, and keep moving forward.
