Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Borderline PD Changed My Life

October 31, 2019 Rosie Cappuccino

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for borderline personality disorder has changed my life for the better.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy and My Borderline Personality Disorder

There are four modules in DBT: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. These have all helped me so much. In particular, emotion regulation has helped me cope with overwhelming emotions and learn to balance my mood.

If you can't access DBT for whatever reason, I would suggest having a look online to see if you can teach yourself some skills. I did this when I was on a long waiting list to access therapy for borderline personality disorder.

I would love to know if DBT has helped you or if you want to try it. Share your thoughts in the comments.

DBT literally saved my life. It taught me how to survive my seemingly unsurvivable wave upon wave of emotions. The most valuable thing I realized during class was that practicing the skills give you time so you don't shoot yourself in the foot over and over because I was always stuck in emotional mind. Radical Acceptance was the most difficult skill to learn how to use but ironically, it is the one that has helped me the most. I am a lay DBT-informed counselor. I started my blog because I want to offer hope to people that just because they have been diagnosed with BPD, it is not a life sentence. DBT was the key.
