We invest too much energy in relationships to allow negative ones in our lives. Learn the basics of a healthy relationship and why healthy relationships matter.

A relationship is, in essence, a connection with another individual and in our daily lives, it can come in many forms. A relationship may be described as familial, romantic, a friendship, an acquaintance, collegiate, or professional. Let’s face it, relationships have a colossal impact on our lives. Some can be uplifting and others can be discouraging. Can you think of any of your existing relationships that zap your energy and wear you down?

Relationships Unveiled - Why Do Healthy Relationships Matter?

There is too much energy invested in relationships not to be picky about who you allow to affect your well-being. Learn the basics of a healthy relationship.Personally, I vote for relationships that are uplifting and nurturing - healthy relationships. Over the years I have been very selective about the relationships I form both personal and professional. In particular, what comes to mind when I think of my healthy relationships is a sense of joy, happiness, loyalty, trustworthiness, respect, honesty, support, inspiration, compassion, gratefulness, and kindness.

Think about it, would you describe your relationships as healthy? There is too much time and energy invested in relationships not to be picky about who you allow affecting your well-being. One of the ways we learn about ourselves is through relationships with family, friends, colleagues, mentors, teachers, and lovers. We discover things about ourselves that we couldn't have without our close connections and interactions. When the connection is healthy, it frees up space in the mind and spirit for attracting more positive things and people. This is why healthy relationships matter.

Seven Fundamentals of a Healthy Relationship

Actions speak louder than words. Form and cultivate relationships that are:

  1. Mutually symbiotic: ensure it's beneficial for each of you.
  2. Respectful: treat each other with dignity and respect.
  3. Transparent: be open, honest and communicate clearly.
  4. Supportive: support each others’ endeavors.
  5. Encouraging: inspire confidence and hope rather than criticize.
  6. Forgiving: show understanding and grace when resolving conflicts.
  7. Comfortable & Secure: create a feeling of ease and safety.
