Deconstructing Family Beliefs on Mental Health
I've been learning in therapy that so many of the things I've accepted as "fact" all my life are actually subjective beliefs passed down from my family. I loved the challenge my therapist set me this week of deconstructing my family's beliefs on various topics, including mental health.
The Importance of Family Beliefs on Mental Health
The way I see it, when I can identify where certain beliefs came from, I can then choose whether I want to keep those beliefs or not. Some of the things I learned from my home environment were very positive -- some, not so much.
