Letting Go – ‘Treating Anxiety’ Author Melissa Renzi Says Goodbye
When it comes to self-care and treating anxiety, we need to know when it’s time to let go and say goodbye to certain obligations. If we don’t learn to let go of some things, we can spread ourselves thin and run ourselves into the ground. While it is bittersweet to announce my departure from HealthyPlace, I know letting go is vital to my mental health in order to prioritize and reduce some of my own anxiety.
Letting go of obligations or responsibilities can feel uncomfortable at first. The change itself can bring about a layer of anxiety when we move away from a routine. I know I personally hold myself to high standards with respect to fulfilling commitments. I don’t like to feel as thought I’m disappointing others. And there’s this part of me that sometimes feels I should be able to do it all.
But the truth is that in order to manage anxiety, we need to know when we’ve simply taken on too much and need to reduce our load. If we fret about disappointing others, we deplete our energy and truly end up only disappointing ourselves.
I’ve come to realize that by doing too many things, I’m inevitably giving less attention to each of those responsibilities. By letting go of some smaller responsibilities, I can effectively dedicate more time and focus on my yoga teaching, retreats, and personal website offerings.
So, while a part of me will miss contributing to the HealthyPlace community through my writing, I know that my time here has come to a close and it’s time to let go. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, I urge you to consider what you can let go of in order to be able to better focus and cope. So long, HealthyPlace!
