When You're Too Busy to Eat With Binge Eating Disorder

April 28, 2016 Star LaBranche

Occasionally, people tell me they're too busy to eat, even with binge eating disorder. But self-care is not about having extra time in your day to care for yourself, it's about designating time in your day to make sure you do the basic tasks you need in order to be healthy (Practicing Self-Care Is Hard But Vital For Mental Health). In this day and age we're all busy people, but eating regular meals is not a luxury. It's a necessity. Even if you're "too busy" you need to eat with binge eating disorder.

Living with Binge Eating Disorder: Too Busy to Eat

When you live with binge eating disorder and have a full schedule, sometimes it can be
difficult to find time to grab a bite. But not eating can trigger binges and overeating when you finally do eat. It can upset comorbid conditions that you have alongside your binge eating disorder. It can even result in malnutrition and weight loss if it gets extreme.

How to Rethink "Too Busy to Eat" When You Have Binge Eating Disorder

Do you find you're too busy to eat although you have binge eating disorder? Bad things happen when you're too busy to eat with BED. Take a look.

Once you're used to being too busy to eat and properly care for your binge eating disorder, it can be difficult to break the habit. However, I often tell myself to think of self-care as if I was caring for a pet. It would be cruel to make a dog run around all day without proper food and water. Why would I do that to myself?

I make time in my schedule to care for my pets because it's a necessary task in order to keep that pet happy and healthy and be a responsible pet owner. Every time you think about skipping a meal or brushing off an important part of self-care, ask yourself if you would treat your pet the same way?

Binge Eating Disorder and Being So Busy You Forget to Eat

Some people tell me they're so busy they simply forget to eat and properly care for their binge eating disorder. Personally, I've never had that problem. My issue is usually finding time to eat. But if your work distracts you to the point where you forget about eating, set alarms on your phone, log lunch in your calendar, find some way to remind you to eat at regular times.

The Benefits of Not Being Too Busy to Eat When You Have Binge Eating Disorder

It seems like a lot of work to make sure you're not too busy to eat when you have binge eating disorder. So what makes all of this worth it? When you eat at regular times you can help your recovery, help stop binges before they start, and allow yourself to feel cared for. And feeling cared for has great worth.
