Self-Help Apps for Building Confidence

July 24, 2013 Emily Roberts MA, LPC

Self-help apps for building confidence come in real handy and can be extremely helpful in developing confidence building skills. These mental health apps utilize difference types of therapies and work on your smartphone or tablet. That means that wherever you are, you can be building your confidence, managing stress or anger or working on other mental health issues you may be facing.

In fact, some of my clients actually use a diary card sent through their smart phones directly to my email, tracking progress or stress levels. It's pretty innovative and helps them in the moment, almost like a pocket therapist. When you successfully navigate a challenge or something that was previously difficult, this builds confidence.

Apps for Building Confidence

eCBT Calm

CBT Calm helps people who are feeling stressed and want to learn relaxation skills. It assesses your stress level, provides relaxation skills, and also includes links to online resources for stress and anxiety. You can use this in the moment to reduce overwhelming feelings and gain control.

Self-help apps for building confidence come in real handy and can be extremely helpful in developing confidence building skills.DBT Diary Card

DBT Diary Card provides skills on the-go, like a therapist in your pocket. You can learn how to use destress tolerance, mindfulness (read: How Mindfulness Can Increase Self-Confidence), and interpersonal effectiveness in the moment. If you're working with a therapist, it sends him or her the info. If not, it can be used as a way to track your progress with negative thinking and behaviors. It will also provide you with new ways to handle them effectively. DBT Diary Card is the only DBT iPhone app designed and created by a licensed and DBT intensively trained psychologist.

iCounselor: Anxiety

This is a fun app and is extremely effective as it lets you go through stages and suggestions to help you in your current state of mind. Suggestions based on your current anxiety rating are identified.

Self-Esteem Daily Affirmations

This provides affirmations to build your self-esteem and internal confidence. Using creative daily affirmations and truths, you are reminded to read over statements that build self-esteem.

The New Age Handbook

Guide to Spiritual and Personal Empowerment 1.0 is a women's empowerment application by Weblantis. It talks about self-empowerment through the New Age Movement including tips on goal improvement, aromatherapy, stress management, yoga and building self-esteem.

Technology Can Help Develop Confidence Building Skills

Use technology to the best of your ability, in the moment. If you don't have internet access or a phone that isn't compatible, try using your notepad application which is always on your phone. Use this to track your thoughts, vent, or help you use some of the skills to build confidence or self-esteem that I've suggested in the other Building Self-Esteem blog posts including:

I would so love it if there were Android apps you could make us aware of. Love the idea of these apps, but I don't have an iPhone.

Great point! I will add some to the blog soon but I have heard great things about these:
The Worry Box- Use the worry cognitive diary to help you determine how to cope anxiety and a coach for using it on the go. Helps build positive self-talk too!
Anxiety is similar to the one in the post, is a pocket counselor for decreasing your anxiety in the moment.
I hope these help!
