Do you savor your time in solitude? Do you recall the last time you were intentional about spending time alone? Learn about the benefits of time in solitude.

Solitude simply means seclusion, quiet, and privacy. Some find solitude undesirable and even depressing. Others view it as an opportunity to reflect and discover spiritual enlightenment. Putting a positive spin on solitude creates an invitation for us to withdraw from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Solitude is a call to action to simply spend quiet time away from the commotion of places and people abuzz. It is an opportunity for deep reflection about your self, happiness, purpose and contribution in this world.

As a writer, I seek out time in solitude. I like to surround myself with nature, whether it’s on the backdrop of countless snow-capped mountains or settling in among the rolling hills, sprawling green trees, magnificent limestone cliffs, or a serene lake. It is an opportunity to remove myself from distractions and reflect on my life. Solitude is an essential companion of creativity and self-discovery.

Benefits of Spending Time in Solitude

The benefits of solitude have proven to be a good thing. There are at least six wonderful benefits of spending time in solitude. According to Dr. Sherrie Bourg Carter, a psychologist and author who specializes in the area of women and stress, the benefits of solitude can positively affect your mind and body.

  2. Solitude improves your concentration.
  3. Solitude triggers creativity.
  4. Solitude fosters deep reflection.
  5. Solitude boosts self-discovery and finding your own voice.
  6. Solitude enhances the quality of your relationships.
